Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical C&I Underwriter to join our commercial banking team in Los Angeles. This role plays a critical part in evaluating and underwriting complex commercial & industrial (C&I) loan requests, ensuring credit quality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with the bank’s risk appetite. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of credit risk, financial analysis, and lending structures, with the ability to collaborate across departments in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow, collateral, industry conditions, and business operations for C&I lending opportunities.

  • Structure and underwrite new and renewed loan transactions in accordance with internal credit policy and regulatory standards.

  • Prepare comprehensive credit memorandums and present recommendations to the Credit Committee and senior credit officers.

  • Support relationship managers with deal structuring, credit analysis, and client interactions.

  • Perform risk assessments on existing credit portfolios and proactively monitor for potential deterioration.

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and well-documented credit decisions.

  • Partner with credit administration and loan operations to facilitate the booking and closing of approved deals.

  • Stay current on market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes that may impact credit quality.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA or formal credit training preferred).

  • 3–7 years of experience in commercial underwriting, preferably in C&I or middle-market lending.

  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling, ratio analysis, and credit risk assessment.

  • Solid understanding of loan structures, legal documentation, and collateral analysis.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare and present clear, concise credit memos.

  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as OCC, FDIC, or FRB guidelines.
