Essential Duties and Responsibilities
As a Civil Estimator, you are the key player in ensuring that projects are set up for success from the very start. You’ll use your expertise to create accurate estimates, support strategic decisions, and lay the foundation for our projects to flourish. Here’s how you’ll make a difference:
- Estimate with Precision: Use your in-depth knowledge of civil engineering to produce accurate, detailed cost estimates for projects, ensuring every penny is accounted for.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work hand-in-hand with Project Managers, Engineers, and other departments to gather input, review plans, and make sure every estimate is spot on.
- Supplier & Subcontractor Engagement: Build strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure the best possible value for the company.
- Bid Management: Coordinate the bidding process, from reviewing plans and specifications to presenting completed bids, ensuring every submission is professional and compliant.
- Cost Control: Maintain a keen eye on budgets, track project costs, and ensure estimates align with the overall project goals and timelines.
- Technical Expertise: Review technical drawings, specifications, and site conditions to anticipate challenges and account for all necessary resources, labor, and materials.
- Market Research: Stay ahead of industry trends, materials, and technologies to ensure we’re using the most cost-effective solutions available.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks early in the estimating process and factor them into the cost structure, protecting the company from future surprises.
- Process Improvement: Look for ways to improve estimating practices, creating efficiencies that help us win more bids and deliver even better results.
- Project Support: Assist in project handover, providing essential estimating details to Project Managers and supporting them in tracking project progress and costs.
- Continuous Learning: Stay sharp and up-to-date with industry standards and new technologies, always growing your skill set and bringing fresh knowledge to the table.
Secondary Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date estimating records and databases for easy reference and reporting.
- Assist in reviewing and negotiating contracts, ensuring pricing structures are clear and in line with company expectations.
- Provide valuable input into change orders and cost impacts, ensuring the integrity of the original estimate is maintained.
