MISSION:

At the direction of the team leader, participates in the successful production and administration of the lending function of the Bank.  CLO is responsible for a variety of functions and tasks pertaining to key areas of the Bank’s lending programs to meet established objectives for profit, growth, and exceptional customer service.  A CLO will often handles technical, and often difficult, loan functions.  


INTENT:

 A Commercial Lending Officer position is a senior level position within the loan production team. Lenders at this level will have a thorough understanding of all commercial lending functions, as well as the Bank’s business objectives, underwriting guidelines, and the Bank’s programs and financial goals.  A CLO is distinguished from a Jr. CLO by the complexity and size of the commercial credits handled, in addition to the production level and credit management responsibilities.  


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:  


Loan Production:

Engages in the successful marketing of loan products and services to current and potential customers. 

•    Leads or participates in the successful solicitation and maintenance of desirable long-term customer relationships in accordance with safe and sound banking practices.
•    Leads or participates in the development of new business by cultivating networks of centers of influences (COI’s) and other community connection, including existing client base.
•    Serves as an advisor to clients and prospects, advising of other products and services offered to develop additional or deeper banking relationships.
•    Leads or participates in the delivery of exceptional customer service. It is an expectation of this position to lead by example and provide coaching where necessary to junior bankers.
•    Assists in the development of lending marketing strategies and annual objectives.
•    Develops new business by contacting prospective and current customers.  Advises prospects and customers of other products and services offered to develop additional banking relationships.
•    Leads or participates in the development of professional rapport with current or prospective clients to match products and services most effectively to client needs.

Credit Underwriting/Portfolio Maintenance:  Sources and analyzes credit requests and obtains assistance when needed to secure business on behalf of the Bank.  Manages ongoing relationships for proper adherence to credit requirements. 

Ensures that policies and procedures are administered consistently and in accordance with the Bank's objectives and banking regulations.  Analyzes financial and related data and reviews specific circumstances of each loan.  Prepares loan presentations for the approval by the proper authority. data and reviews specific circumstances of each loan.  Prepares loan presentations for the approval by the proper authority. 

•    Establishes and negotiates terms for the extension of credit, including costs, repayment method and schedule, and collateral requirements.  Ensures the proper documentation of loans as specified.
•    Reviews the status of current loans outstanding and performs portfolio management activities as necessary or required.  Analyzes the continued credit worthiness of each client with each review.  Ensures compliance with all terms of each loan.  Acts on past due accounts in accordance with Bank policy and procedure to ensure the collectability of such accounts.
•    Maintains continuous study of financial news and lending services to keep informed of economic and financial conditions affecting the lending environment.

Customer Service: Performs a variety of duties and activities to ensure excellent customer service. 

•    Establishes the credit worthiness of credit applicants by interviewing applicants and using active listening/investigating skills and critical thinking.
•    Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Bank products and services and refers the client, if appropriate, to other products and/or personnel for cross sell opportunity.
•    Develops and maintains professional business relationships with other commercial lenders, brokers, mortgage companies, etc. in the community. Recruitment of Bank employees is a secondary, but important, responsibility of this position.
•    Sources referrals from Business Development Officers, ensuring appropriate follow-up and solidification of existing relationship through professional response.

Community:  Cultivates and always maintains a professional image.

•    Being an active and routine participant in community and similar events is a primary responsibility of this position.
•    Leading or participating in the Bank’s participation in community activities is a primary responsibility of this position.

Compliance:  Assists in the Bank’s compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to lending functions. 

*    Must have familiarity with all relevant federal and state banking rules and regulations regarding lending.
*    Performs assigned duties within defined compliance policies and procedures.
*    Cooperates with banking regulators and bank-engaged auditors during their review of the lending function.
*    Completes all assigned compliance training in accordance with designated schedule.

Interpersonal/Team Skills: Establishes and maintains effective rapport within the department as well as with other internal/external customers, vendors, management, etc. 

•    Informs manager of any potential impedance to the performance of assign tasks. Solicits help and input, as necessary.
•    Negotiates and resolves conflicts regarding work assignments, communicating problems, suggestions, etc. to manager as appropriate.
•    Participates in work unit or Bank activities that enhance the efforts and goals of the Bank and/or team.
•    Contributes to teamwork by taking the initiative to assist co-workers, actively participating in staff meetings, suggesting productivity improvements, complying with attendance and other human resource policies, and being pro-active in problem resolution.

Minimum Job Requirements:

•    Formal college-level training and education in business desirable.  Thorough knowledge of loan processing, closing, and administrative functions.  Ten years of successful, progressively responsible experience in bank lending.
•    Working knowledge of all lending regulations, title insurance, loan documentation, credit/financial analysis techniques, disbursement procedures, underwriting functions, etc.
•    Effective sales/marketing and client service techniques, along with good verbal and written communications skills.  Solid arithmetic skills and exceptional attention to detail is crucial for this position.
•    Strong business, civic, community presence and commitment, and solid professional profile in the community.
•    Demonstrated effective time management skills.  Ability to work effectively in a team environment and accomplish work assignments under tight schedules.
•    Excellent decision making and prudent judgment skills.
•    Regular attendance required.
•    Ability to meet bonding requirements for employment purposes.

Scope of Responsibility: The employee has significant financial responsibilities including annual production goals and credit risk management.  The nature of the work is such that failure to perform satisfactorily has a costly and significant impact on the organization.  This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Employees will normally have ten years of prior lending experience. 


Internal Contacts: This position has contact with board members, senior management, lending officers and others. You will work which these parties those to cooperate and collaborate, request approval, or act. You will be responsible to work with loan customers, managers, professional employees or program administrators, which involves explanation and discussion of complex information through the use of human relations skills; and non-managerial employees which involves the exchange of information.
