Take Control of the Numbers Behind the Build

A growing and highly respected construction organization is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Construction Controller to take ownership of the financial operations that keep projects, teams, and the business moving forward.

This is a critical leadership opportunity for someone who understands that construction accounting is about much more than balancing spreadsheets. It is about managing project profitability, protecting cash flow, supporting operational leaders, identifying financial risks before they become expensive problems, and helping build a strong foundation for continued growth.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting, financial reporting, job costing, budgeting, forecasting, and operational finance. They will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves when necessary while also providing high-level financial insight and guidance to company leadership.

If you are a responsible, organized financial professional who enjoys working in the fast-paced world of construction and wants to play a meaningful role in the success of a growing organization, this could be an exceptional opportunity.

What You Will Be Responsible For

The Construction Controller will oversee and manage the day-to-day financial health of the organization while ensuring accuracy, accountability, compliance, and efficiency across accounting operations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and overseeing all accounting and financial operations for the company.
  • Managing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes.
  • Preparing accurate financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and financial analyses.
  • Overseeing project and job-cost accounting to ensure costs, revenues, and profitability are accurately tracked.
  • Monitoring project financial performance and working closely with Project Managers and operational leadership to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Managing cash flow, banking relationships, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and collections.
  • Developing and maintaining budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Overseeing payroll processes and ensuring accurate allocation of labor costs to appropriate projects and cost codes.
  • Managing the month-end and year-end close process.
  • Reviewing work-in-progress reports and assisting with revenue recognition and project forecasting.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial policies.
  • Supporting leadership with strategic financial planning and data-driven decision-making.
  • Assisting with audits, tax preparation, insurance reporting, bonding requirements, and other financial compliance matters.
  • Working collaboratively with company leadership, Project Managers, Superintendents, and department heads to improve financial performance.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve reporting, and strengthen operational efficiency.
  • Leading, mentoring, and supporting accounting and administrative team members as needed.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a dependable and highly responsible financial professional who can confidently manage competing priorities without losing sight of the details. Construction moves quickly, and the right individual will have the ability to keep the financial side of the business organized, accurate, and ahead of the curve.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Several years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
  • Previous experience within the construction industry is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and project financial management.
  • Experience with construction accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial team members.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
