Position Summary:

As Director – Middle Market Banking, you will be responsible for leading relationship management and business development efforts targeting middle market companies, typically with annual revenues between $50 million and $1 billion. Based in Houston, you will leverage your deep understanding of commercial banking products, credit structures, and the local business landscape to build and grow a portfolio of profitable client relationships across a variety of industries.

This role is ideal for a strategic, client-focused professional with strong leadership capabilities, credit acumen, and a proven track record of originating, structuring, and managing complex financial solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of middle market clients, ensuring exceptional relationship management and client satisfaction.

  • Identify client needs and provide customized financial solutions including lending, treasury management, capital markets, and other banking services.

  • Partner with product specialists (e.g., treasury, syndications, FX, M&A advisory) to deliver holistic solutions to clients.

Business Development:

  • Source and cultivate new middle market relationships through referrals, networking, industry events, and direct outreach.

  • Lead deal origination, structuring, and negotiation processes, driving revenue growth and wallet share expansion.

  • Build strong visibility in the Houston business community, acting as a brand ambassador for the bank.

Credit & Risk Management:

  • Analyze financial statements, assess creditworthiness, and collaborate with credit officers to structure and approve loan transactions.

  • Monitor the ongoing risk and performance of the loan portfolio, ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards.

  • Proactively identify early warning signs and work with internal partners to mitigate risk.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Mentor junior bankers and analysts, supporting talent development and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders including risk, compliance, operations, and executive management.

  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and process improvements to enhance client service and profitability.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or CFA preferred.

  • 10+ years of commercial or middle market banking experience with a track record of successful relationship management and credit execution.

  • Deep understanding of credit underwriting, financial modeling, capital structures, and risk management.

  • Strong knowledge of banking products and services, including C&I lending, treasury management, and capital markets.

  • Established network and deep familiarity with the Houston middle market landscape.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and team-oriented mindset.
