THE OPPORTUNITY

Numbers are your language. Construction is your playground. And spreadsheets? You probably have a relationship with them that is somewhere between professional necessity and mild obsession.

We are looking for an Estimator to join a growing construction team in Salt Lake City. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys turning drawings, specifications, quantities, and project details into accurate, competitive estimates that actually make sense in the real world.

The right person will be detail-oriented without getting buried in the details, analytical without needing a calculator for every decision, and organized enough to keep a dozen moving pieces from turning into a circus. You’ll work closely with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and leadership to develop estimates that are competitive, thoughtful, and built on solid information.

This is not simply a “count the beans and add them up” position. A great Estimator understands why the numbers matter and knows how labor, materials, schedules, logistics, subcontractor pricing, and project requirements come together to create a successful bid.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Prepare detailed estimates for construction projects from conceptual through final bid stages.

  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, addenda, and other project documentation.

  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate material and labor pricing.

  • Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals.

  • Compare bids and identify pricing discrepancies, exclusions, gaps, and potential scope issues.

  • Build detailed and organized estimates using available estimating tools and software.

  • Work with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and leadership to clarify scope and pricing.

  • Assist with bid preparation, bid leveling, proposal development, and final estimate reviews.

  • Maintain organized estimating files and documentation.

  • Track changes, revisions, and addenda throughout the bidding process.

  • Research historical project costs and current market pricing.

  • Identify potential risks, opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives.

  • Help develop accurate budgets and forecasts for upcoming projects.

  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, scope reviews, and project turnover meetings when needed.

  • Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to strengthen pricing resources and market knowledge.

  • Keep an eye on the details that other people occasionally walk right past.

  • Ask questions when something doesn't add up instead of quietly hoping the math fixes itself.

  • Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, databases, and procedures.

WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT FIT

We’re looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of figuring things out. You don’t have to know everything on Day One, but you should be curious, dependable, analytical, and willing to dig into a project until the numbers tell a coherent story.

You should be comfortable working with construction documents and have a solid understanding of estimating fundamentals, including quantities, labor, materials, subcontractor pricing, and project scope.

Ideally, you bring:

  • Construction estimating experience, preferably in commercial, industrial, civil, concrete, or related construction.

  • Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and project documents.

  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple bids and deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Experience with construction estimating software is highly desirable.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with subcontractors, vendors, clients, and internal teams.

  • A practical understanding of construction means and methods.

  • A willingness to learn, improve, question, investigate, and occasionally save everyone from a very expensive typo.

THE PERSONALITY PIECE

You’re probably the person who notices when the numbers don't match before anyone else does.

You like structure, but you’re not afraid of a little controlled chaos. You can spend hours buried in plans without losing sight of the bigger picture. You understand that an estimate needs to be accurate, but you also understand that it needs to be completed on time.

You’re curious, accountable, resourceful, and sharp. You know when to ask questions, when to dig deeper, and when a subcontractor's price deserves a second look.

Most importantly, you take pride in your work. You understand that a good estimate can be the difference between winning the right project and winning a project that nobody should have won in the first place.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Estimating sits at the front end of the construction process, and your work will have a ripple effect throughout the entire project. Your numbers influence budgets, schedules, staffing, purchasing, profitability, and ultimately the success of the job.

That makes this a role with real visibility and real impact.

If you enjoy construction, love numbers, notice the details, and want to build your career with a team that values accuracy, accountability, and good people, this could be a very good next move.

Bring your estimating skills. Bring your curiosity. Bring your calculator.

We’ll bring the projects.
