Estimator
Location: Salt Lake City
Compensation: $105,000 – $130,000 DOE
Role Overview
We are seeking a sharp, detail-obsessed Estimator who treats numbers like architecture in disguise. In this role, you won’t just “price work,” you will translate vision into cost certainty, risk awareness, and competitive advantage. Every bid you touch becomes a carefully tuned instrument, calibrated to win work without sacrificing quality, integrity, or margin.
You’ll sit at the intersection of strategy and execution, where early decisions echo through entire projects. Your estimates will help shape pursuits, guide leadership decisions, and set the financial tone for everything that follows in the field.
This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys complexity, thrives in fast-moving preconstruction environments, and can see ten steps ahead while others are still reading the drawings.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and final construction estimates across a variety of commercial and/or civil projects
- Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs with precision that borders on artistry
- Analyze drawings, specifications, addenda, and scope narratives to identify gaps, conflicts, and opportunities
- Build and maintain accurate cost databases for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor proposals with a disciplined and analytical eye
- Partner closely with project managers, superintendents, and executives to align budgets with field realities
- Develop value engineering strategies that protect scope while optimizing cost efficiency
- Assess risk exposure, escalation trends, and market conditions to strengthen bid confidence
- Participate in bid reviews, strategy sessions, and pursuit planning with leadership teams
- Support design-build and negotiated work with early-stage budgeting and feasibility input
What You Bring
- 3–7+ years of estimating experience in commercial, civil, or multifamily construction
- Strong command of estimating software and digital takeoff tools
- Deep understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and trade pricing structures
- Ability to read between the lines of plans and specs, not just follow them
- Strong analytical mindset paired with commercial instincts
- Confidence presenting estimates and defending assumptions under scrutiny
- A calm, focused approach when deadlines tighten and bid day energy spikes
- Collaborative mindset with field and preconstruction teams
Why This Role Matters
In preconstruction, precision is power. Your estimates don’t just answer “how much does it cost,” they shape whether a project is viable, competitive, and profitable. You are the quiet architect behind the bid sheet, turning uncertainty into structured, defendable clarity.
Compensation & Environment
- $105K–$130K base salary, depending on experience
- Opportunity to influence high-value, complex projects across the region
- Collaborative preconstruction culture with strong leadership support
- Growth path into Senior Estimator or Preconstruction leadership roles
- Fast-paced environment where good thinking gets noticed quickly
If you like turning ambiguity into precision, and you enjoy the intellectual puzzle behind every set of plans, this role is built for you.
