Shape the Financial Backbone. Elevate the Standard. Lead with Precision.

An established and growth-focused organization in Walnut Creek is seeking a Head of Accounting to take the reins of its accounting function and transform it into a high-performance, insight-driven engine. This is not a “keep-the-lights-on” role—it’s a strategic leadership seat at the table where numbers tell stories, guide decisions, and fuel expansion.

You’ll be the architect of financial integrity, the guardian of compliance, and the conductor of a well-tuned accounting orchestra—ensuring every note (and number) lands exactly where it should.

The Role

As Head of Accounting, you will lead all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. You’ll partner closely with executive leadership to provide clarity, foresight, and strategic financial guidance while building and mentoring a best-in-class accounting team.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead, develop, and inspire the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and executive team on financial reporting, risk management, and accounting strategy
  • Translate complex financial data into actionable insights that support business decisions and long-term growth

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements
  • Manage external audits and act as the primary liaison with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain and continuously improve internal controls and accounting policies

Operational Excellence

  • Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements to increase efficiency and scalability
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets functions
  • Ensure clean, accurate, and audit-ready financials at all times

Risk & Controls

  • Design and implement robust internal control frameworks to safeguard company assets
  • Identify financial risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies
  • Maintain compliance with SOX (if applicable) and other internal governance standards

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with FP&A, operations, and business leaders to align financial reporting with strategic goals
  • Support M&A activity, due diligence, and integration efforts as needed
  • Act as a bridge between finance and the broader organization—bringing clarity where complexity lives

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
  • Deep expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience scaling accounting functions in high-growth or complex environments
  • Strong background in audit management and regulatory compliance
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
  • A leadership style that blends high standards with mentorship and team development

What Sets You Apart

  • You don’t just close books—you open doors to insight
  • You see inefficiencies as puzzles waiting to be solved
  • You balance precision with pace in fast-moving environments
  • You lead with confidence, communicate with clarity, and execute with discipline

Why This Opportunity

  • Executive-level visibility and influence
  • A chance to modernize and shape the accounting function
  • Competitive compensation and performance incentives
  • A collaborative leadership team that values financial expertise as a strategic advantage

If you’re ready to turn financial complexity into clarity—and build an accounting function that operates like a finely tuned instrument—this is your stage.
