The Role

The Project Cost Accountant is the quiet powerhouse behind successful construction projects. This role lives at the intersection of numbers, schedules, and real-world progress. You’ll track costs from groundbreaking to closeout, ensure financial accuracy across multiple projects, and partner closely with project managers to keep budgets honest and outcomes strong. If you enjoy detail, accountability, and being deeply involved in how projects actually perform, this role has your name on it.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date job cost records for multiple active construction projects

  • Track project budgets, commitments, change orders, and cost forecasts

  • Review and process subcontractor invoices, ensuring alignment with contracts and progress

  • Assist with monthly job cost reporting, variance analysis, and financial summaries

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to provide real-time cost insight

  • Monitor labor, materials, equipment, and overhead allocations

  • Support project billings, including progress billings and retention tracking

  • Help ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies

  • Participate in project closeouts, final cost reconciliations, and audit support

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of accounting or job cost experience, preferably in construction

  • Working knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and project-based financials

  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with construction accounting software

  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage competing deadlines

  • Clear communicator who enjoys working with both field and office teams

  • Organized, dependable, and naturally curious about how numbers tell the project story
