Position Overview
The Senior Underwriter, Premium Finance is a high-impact role responsible for evaluating, structuring, and approving complex insurance premium finance transactions for high-net-worth individuals, commercial clients, and institutional partners. This role sits at the intersection of credit risk, relationship management, and strategic portfolio growth, requiring both sharp analytical rigor and seasoned judgment. You will be a trusted decision-maker, safeguarding asset quality while enabling profitable expansion in a fast-paced, relationship-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and approve premium finance loans, including life insurance, P&C, and specialty insurance products, in accordance with credit policy and risk appetite.

  • Analyze borrower financial statements, collateral structures, policy performance, carrier strength, and liquidity profiles.

  • Structure complex transactions, determining advance rates, terms, covenants, and risk mitigants.

  • Partner closely with relationship managers, brokers, and internal credit leadership to support new business development and portfolio retention.

  • Monitor existing credits, perform annual reviews, assess policy performance, and proactively identify emerging risks.

  • Recommend risk ratings, limits, and strategies for portfolio optimization and concentration management.

  • Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to underwriting standards, policy refinement, and best practices.

  • Participate in credit committees and present well-reasoned recommendations to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of underwriting or credit experience within premium finance, specialty lending, private banking, or commercial credit.

  • Deep understanding of life insurance products, policy mechanics, collateral structures, and carrier risk.

  • Proven ability to underwrite high-dollar, complex credit relationships with independent judgment.

  • Strong financial analysis skills, including cash flow, net worth, liquidity, and stress testing.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence at senior levels.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; advanced degree or professional credit training a plus.
