In the world of banking, some roles feel like spreadsheets… and others feel like you’re quietly steering the financial backbone of an entire city. This one is the latter.

Step into a role where capital meets civic impact. As a Vice President in Government Banking focused on Municipal & Public Finance (MFP), you’ll operate at the intersection of public institutions, infrastructure ambition, and sophisticated financial structuring. Think cities building skylines, school districts expanding capacity, utilities modernizing grids—and you as one of the key architects behind the funding that makes it all possible.

This is not relationship banking in the ordinary sense. It’s relationship banking with a civic heartbeat.

What you’ll actually do (besides sounding important at dinner parties)

You’ll build and deepen relationships with municipalities, school districts, utilities, transportation authorities, and other public sector entities across Texas and beyond. These are long-cycle, high-trust partnerships where credibility matters as much as pricing.

You’ll structure and support financing solutions that may include:

  • General obligation bonds
  • Revenue bonds tied to infrastructure or utilities
  • Tax-backed financing programs
  • Public-private partnership structures
  • Treasury and cash management solutions for government entities

You’ll also serve as the internal “translator” between public clients and bank execution teams—credit, underwriting, capital markets, legal, and risk—making sure complex deals don’t lose their clarity in translation.

The rhythm of the role

Some days you’re mapping out a multi-year financing strategy for a growing metro area. Other days you’re troubleshooting a bond issuance timeline or advising a school district on capital improvement funding options. And occasionally, you’re sitting in a room where decisions will shape roads, hospitals, or water systems for decades.

What success looks like

  • Strong, trusted municipal client relationships across Houston and broader Texas markets
  • Consistent origination of public finance deals and fee-generating opportunities
  • Clean execution of complex financing structures with cross-functional teams
  • Deep understanding of public sector credit, policy constraints, and political nuance
  • A reputation as someone who makes complicated funding feel navigable

What you bring

  • Experience in public finance, government banking, or municipal credit markets
  • Comfort with structured debt, capital markets products, or relationship-driven lending
  • Ability to read both financial statements and the room during public-sector conversations
  • A steady hand when timelines stretch, stakeholders multiply, and complexity compounds
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or CFA is often welcomed like an old friend

Why Houston makes this role interesting

Houston isn’t just a market—it’s a machine of growth, infrastructure, and reinvention. Energy, transit, education systems, and rapid urban expansion create a constant pipeline of public financing needs. In other words, your work rarely sits still.
